Code: PCC/21/90 Healthy Conversation Skills - Behaviour Change

Hi ! How are you?

There seems to be a misconception around 'helping people' and a tendency to move towards specific training that is overly complicated, sometimes daunting and often ends up sitting on the 'shelf' - The Healthy Conversation Skills training aims to de-mystify the art of 'giving help' and build confidence in everyone.

This 3 hour, fully interactive virtual training is designed to encourage and support the philosophy behind Making Every Contact Count (MECC) with added peer support, networking opportunities and a desire to implement what they learn in their daily lives

We all have a shared responsibility to be healthy in the conversations we have with our residents/customers and each other. We need to invest time in the development of our skills now while there is a collective consideration of health and inequality made so evident in the current pandemic.

If people are empowered to be proactive and opportunistic in their approach to helping others with more complex issues like mental health and sexual health: they will need to be confident in having a basic conversation; using reflection, open discovery questions and a person centred, asset based approach.

Code: PCC/21/823 Virtual seminar: Leading a Hybrid Team

As we progress through and out of the current pandemic, the majority of our teams are expected to be operating a hybrid model of working with some staff located in the office, either part or full-time, and some staff working from home. This model of team leadership is entirely novel to the vast majority of our managers and some of the challenges it will bring cannot be entirely known or understood at this point.

This one-hour facilitated virtual event for PCC, GBC and NHS / CCG managers is part of a learning package intended to support managers in effectively leading a hybrid team. The other part of the package is going to be a module on the intranet where managers can access self-help learning materials and tools.

The seminar will be conversational rather than a one-way content dump, so please come to the session with a question for the facilitators, or share what you have learnt and other effective practices you've implemented since March 2020.

This seminar will also be help L&D in identifying the support needs and concerns of our managers so that we can provide a more bespoke offering later. So please give this some thought before attending.

Code: PCC/21/323 Mental Capacity Act Refresher: Learning Lessons from Court of Protection Cases (Virtual Online)

Delegates must attend both sessions to complete the course - please add both dates into your calendar.

Course Outline: Mental Capacity Act Refresher: Learning Lessons from Court of Protection Cases delivered by ST Thomas Training

Annual refresher to update your knowledge on the Mental Capacity Act

The training is split into two sessions over consecutive days. The training will look at a range of cases which have been considered by the Court of Protection, to see what lessons can be learnt for our everyday practice.

Mental Capacity Act cases go to the Court of Protection either where there is conflict amongst the people involved, and/or where the issue is so serious or complicated that it cannot be resolved through meetings and negotiation. The rulings of the Court, and the reasons for those rulings, can be invaluable in helping health & social care practitioners deal with similar issues in their own practice.

Who should attend?

Anyone who works in a health and/or social care setting (eg hospitals, social worker teams, OT, ISA, residential or community care, GP surgeries etc). Participants should already be familiar with the Mental Capacity Act and the Code of Practice, because this is not an awareness session.
