Cultural awareness is essential for anybody working with the diverse community in Portsmouth. This course provides an overview of ethnic minority demographics within Portsmouth and an introduction to larger communities and their culture.
Participants will gain insight into people from other cultures enhancing their self-awareness and develop their confidence in working with people from different backgrounds. The course also explores some of the barriers ethnic minority communities face when accessing services, ideas on how to overcome these and aspects of mental health and wellbeing within different cultures.

The MCA- Ethical Framework Assessing Capacity in COVID-times Zoom workshop had been specifically designed to support Qualified Social Workers and other practitioners OT who are involved in Assessing Capacity during Coronavirus lockdown
This course gives practical advice, uses case studies and group discussion to explore and consolidate the recent guidance issued to ASC on Coronavirus (COVID-19): looking after people who lack mental capacity (Department of Health & Social Care).
A one-day training session to enable participants to build on their understanding of the Act and how they can make sure it is properly implemented in the work settings for which they are responsible.
Who should attend?
Social workers, care managers, independent support assistants and occupational therapists. All participants will be expected to have a thorough grasp of the Mental Capacity Act before attending this session (ideally by attending a “Part 1” session)Essential Information
This course will follow on from the PBS awareness training. It will support staff to further their skills and competences when working with people who can challenge in order to promote positive behavioural support which will enhance the quality of life for the service users whom they work with.
