Course description

This is a 2-hour monthly seminar for any PCC, GBC or CCG project manager, primarily for those relatively new to project management.

It is facilitated on Microsoft Teams with the occasional guest speaker on a specialist project management topic. The event is run on a drop-in / drop-out basis, so attendees can participate for all or part of the 2 hours allocated, depending on their other commitments.

The seminars will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions, share stories relating to their practice and get coaching from the facilitator and the other participants.

The seminars are part of a package of project management training available for new project managers. Digital self-study modules and materials are currently in production and hosted in the Future Leaders group on Knowledge Hub.

Training objectives

The purpose of the seminar is to help develop practitioners' confidence and mastery in the subject.

No two seminars will be identical and the agenda will be set mostly by the participants with some input from the facilitator and guest speaker when there is one.

As well as providing networking benefits, it is intended especially to help support participants in the crucial local government arts of stakeholder engagement, relationship building, political awareness and strategic thinking.

Learning outcomes

Through regular attendance and participation at the seminars, learners will become more conversant and confident in the technical, people and strategic project managment skills. Specifically the seminars will help the learners:

  • Take a leadership role on projects

  • Communicate their ideas and objectives

  • Exercise judgement and make better decisions

  • Challenge and assert effectively

  • Think more critically and reflectively on their practice
