This training is for practitioners working in Children's Services undertaking human rights assessments for children and families with No Recourse to Public Funds.


• Part 1: Introduction to 'no recourse to public funds' (NRPF)
• Part 2: Assessing need and providing support under section 17 of the Children Act 1989
• Part 3: Exit pathways and case resolution

Training objectives

Objectives
• To understand how immigration status affects entitlement to benefits and housing assistance
• To be able to establish when accommodation/ financial support can be provided to a family with NRPF under section 17 of the Children Act 1989
• To identify an appropriate exit pathway and how to support a family to achieve this
• To apply good practice when working with families who have no recourse to public funds

Learning outcomes

By the end of the training course, participants will:
• What ‘no recourse to public funds’ means and who this applies to
• What to consider when undertaking a child in need assessment for a child in an NRPF household
• What to consider when providing support under section 17 of the Children Act 1989
• When a human rights assessment is required
• How to identify and assist a family to achieve a sustainable outcome and expedite case resolution
• Best practice in case management and service delivery
