Course description

This course will enable participants to understand the differences between an allegation, complaint or standards of care
concern raised about them. They will be able to understand the processes involved in these situations along with the
relevant legislation and National Minimum Standards and be able to learn how they can minimise the chances of being
involved in these types of situations.

For foster carers to understand the difference between an allegation, complaint and standards of care concern about them

To gain greater understanding of the impact on foster carers and how to minimise these
To learn what helps in these situations
To consider the various elements of the process of investigationsTo understand the Regulations and the National Minimum Standards that apply

To understand the difference between independent support and the role of the supervising social worker
To have the opportunity through some case scenarios to have a group discussion about some case examples

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise the difference between allegations, complaints and concerns

  • Understand the process that is followed to investigate allegations

  • Understand the terminology that may be used

  • Explore the support that is available during the process

  • Understand how the process will be concluded

  • Learn how to minimise the risks to themselves
