As an apprentice, you’ll be employed by an organisation that has technology at its heart and you will train for recognised qualifications. From day one, you’ll use your new skills to tackle real business tasks in the workplace and you will learn from the best minds in the industry in a fast-paced environment.
The mix of qualifications and experience you will gain will stand you in good stead for a rewarding and successful career in IT and as an apprentice you could work in any one of a broad variety of roles. For example, you might work as an IT project manager, overseeing the development of computer systems to meet a client’s business needs, or as an analyst developer, researching, designing and writing new software programs.
There are tough requirements to get onto this Higher Apprenticeship – you will need two A-levels (or an equivalent qualification) or to have successfully completed an Advanced Level apprenticeship in ICT – and you will need to be prepared to work hard as you will be studying for a qualification while working full time. Some higher apprentices do a Foundation Degree, while many others do qualifications such as HNCs or HNDs.
Once you have completed your apprenticeship, however, you will be in a good position to progress into managerial or team leader roles. Career prospects are good, as IT skills are always in demand and employers recognise the energy, creativity and passion that apprentices bring to the business.
Apprentices will achieve a practical (or 'competence') qualification:
Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
Apprentices will also achieve a theory-based (or 'knowledge') qualification:
Award in ICT Systems and Principles
